What Defines Luxury

The problem with shopping for luxury homes is that there is no hard and fast definition of luxury. Plenty of listings will claim luxury, but if you're in the mood to buy something more special in Omaha than the Bloor Yorkville condo you're leaving behind, how can you tell what's worth your time or not? The following is a list of features you may find in luxury homes. Not every one will have them all, but they should at least have a few to even consider calling themselves luxury homes.

Decor

Most of the 'luxury' you'll be getting in the luxury label shows itself in the decor. Not the wall hangings and the furniture - those are things you'll bring with you. The decor in this case includes the contemporary bathroom vanities and the flooring and the countertops and appliances. Everything should be of the highest quality. Real granite or marble in the kitchen. Dual-zone oven, flat top range, industrial sized refrigerator, read hard wood floors polished to a high shine, stone in the fireplace and in the retaining walls, and expensive siding, stone, or brick on the exterior.

Size

Luxury units should always be larger than standard sized ones, regardless of whether you're looking at a family home here in Omaha or condos in Troncones, Mexico. If the standard size for a three bedroom in the area is 1000 square feet, your home should be 1,500+ square feet. Rooms should feel open and spacious. There need not be more of them than in a normal house, but they should feel larger and more luxurious. Of course, many luxury homes often have extra rooms as well, such as spare half baths and extra closets, but the most important part is the room size.

Features

Some of the special features you'll find in luxury Mississauga condos for sale are the same features you'd find in a normal condo, just bigger and nicer. This includes bedrooms, bathrooms, balconies, garages, yards, and decks. Other features are less common but no less essential to the luxury brand: sunrooms, libraries, second family rooms, in-law suites, bars, fireplaces, home theaters, and the like are all special features you might expect a luxury home to have. Generally luxury homes would have three or more unusual features.

Neighborhood

What good is a home if it's luxurious on the inside but surrounded by weatherbeaten Scarborough Bluffs homes? That's why an essential component of luxury branding is that the home be located in a desirable area. That means other large homes nearby, traffic calmed streets, manicured parks, well maintained sidewalks, homeowners' association rules, and a relative freedom from violent and property crime. Good neighborhoods mean higher prices, but it's worth it.
